Rustenburg, North West - June 26, 2023 - A 47-year-old suspect is set to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court today on charges of corruption, fraud, and impersonating a police officer. The arrest of the suspect took place in Boitekong outside Rustenburg on Friday, June 23, 2023.

The suspect, who allegedly posed as an Investigating Officer in a theft case that was filed in September 2022, contacted a man implicated in the matter and demanded a sum of R3000.00. The suspect assured the individual that he would ensure the disappearance of the case docket.

The Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) was promptly notified of the incident, leading to an undercover operation and subsequent arrest of the suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that the individual in question is not a member of the South African Police Service.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the North West Provincial Commissioner, commended the swift response of the officers involved, which ultimately resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
