2-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Pool in Cottonlands, KZN

Cottonlands, KwaZulu-Natal - In a heartbreaking incident earlier today, a two-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in a pool of water. The incident occurred in the Cottonlands area, sending shockwaves through the community.

At approximately 13:53 yesterday, a local Councillor reached out to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance at the scene. Upon their swift arrival, Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were informed that members of the community had already retrieved the child's lifeless body from the water. Medical personnel, upon examination, sadly confirmed that the young boy showed no signs of life.

According to witnesses, the toddler had been playing with other children when he suddenly disappeared from sight. After a search was initiated, he was discovered submerged in water that had accumulated near a bridge. This tragic occurrence was attributed to a faulty drainage pipe, which had caused the water to pool in that location.

Heartbreakingly, the parents of the deceased child were not present at the scene when the incident took place. They were reported to be at their workplaces during this devastating turn of events.

The local community is now grappling with the shock of the incident and coming together to support one another during this difficult time. The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of water safety and the need for continued maintenance of public infrastructure.
