Two members of the Kimberley Flying Squad, a male and a female officer, lost their lives after being shot by a suspected car thief. The shocking event unfolded near the Transnet Engineering Depot close to the Diamond Pavilion Mall.

The suspect reportedly drove onto the depot grounds and got stuck in a ditch with the alleged stolen vehicle. Subsequently, a pursuit occurred, during which the officers caught up with the suspect. Unfortunately, the suspect managed to disarm the female officer and used her own weapon to fatally shoot both officers.

Following the shooting, the suspect entered the Diamond Pavilion Mall, leading to a swift and extensive response from law enforcement. The mall was swiftly closed off, resulting in some shoppers being evacuated while others sought refuge within stores, where they remained sheltered on the floor.

As of the latest update, the armed suspect remains at large, prompting a continued search by authorities. The situation is ongoing, and we will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
