The HPCSA states it does not regulate qualified practitioners' dress code or life.

According to TimesLive the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), organizations cannot control how physicians dress or live.

This comes after social media uproar over Dr. Sandile Qwabe's lifestyle — a doctor whose TikTok videos depict a pantsula-inspired attire and lifestyle.

Several people were horrified by the doctor, who they believed was disrespectful and brought the profession to shame, while others said they reported him. Simultaneously, others commended his style and expressed how he is the epitome of black excellence.

According to reports, the HPCSA spokesperson Christopher Tsatsawane stated: The HPCSA does not regulate how its registered practitioners dress or their lifestyle. We only regulate their work-related code of conduct with the sole purpose of guiding the profession to protect the public."

He stated that one of the purposes of the HPCSA is to protect and develop the dignity of the applicable health profession and the credibility of the person practicing a such profession

The board must decide if the accusations concern the registered person's integrity or dignity.

People seldom complain about practitioners' clothing standards, he says, and it has little influence on their professional lives.

The HPCSA, on the other hand, stated that it had received no such complaint.
