The Eastern Cape Department of Education has suspended three teachers from the Alfred Nzo East School District on suspicion of sexual misconduct.

This came after it was reported that a female student had shaved her head bald "to make herself unattractive to one of the professors" who allegedly made sexual advances toward her.

According to another student, one of the accused professors "grabbed her butt on school grounds and punished her for refusing to go home to him."

The Eastern Cape Provincial Department of Education said Monday that the teachers had been suspended following a preliminary investigation by the district

According to the department, the investigation confirmed some allegations against the teachers.

"Two of the teachers were summoned on March 24 this year, and the third was gathered this morning [Monday] as he could not be contacted

It goes on to say that a team of mental health workers was activated and began counseling and debriefing these students last week after one left the school and attempted suicide.

"Both provincial and district authorities are monitoring the situation and providing the necessary support to prevent deaths due to this incident."

The investigation is still ongoing.
