Uncovering the mysteries of Thabo Bester's escape. Could Magudumana have used the same body twice?

Information the police supposedly provided to Action SA regarding Thabo Bestor's escape suggests that Bestor's partner Nandifa Magdumana may have recovered the same corpse (Katrego Belem) from the same morgue twice. This indicates that there are inconsistencies surrounding Bester's most daring prison break.

ActionSA Free State Commissioner Patricia Copane confirmed on Tuesday that criminal charges had been filed concerning the death of Belén, whose burned body was believed to have been found in Bestor's cell.

Belém's father, Basso Mufolo, received ActionSA's assistance in prosecuting the Free State Department of Health for violating the National Health Act in disposing of Belém's body at the Park Road Police Station Bloemfontein. I was. Mpholo also plans to take legal action against the Department of Correctional Services and his G4S.

Bestor escaped from Mangaun Correctional Center on May 3, 2022. He faked his death, and a dead body was found in his cell, burned beyond recognition. Nearly a year later, Belen's family was informed that the body found in the cell belonged to him.

According to family members, Belén went missing in March 2022, and a missing persons case was opened in May 2022. The family did not receive news of the investigation until two weeks before Belen's mother asked for her DNA sample. The family has not yet been allowed to see the body. Delegates from Mpholo and ActionSA met with Bloemfontein police throughout the day on Tuesday to clarify how Belém was placed in Bestor's cell.

Kopane told Groundup Tuesday afternoon what the police had told him. She said Belén was found unconscious and rushed to an ambulance. His blood pressure was low, and he died in an ambulance before he reached the National Hospital in Bloemfontein.

According to Kopane, Belén's body was then taken to the Free State morgue as an unidentified person and claimed by Bestor's partner, Magdumana. GroundUp cannot confirm Kopane's version of the event because spokespeople for the local and national SA Police Service declined to comment. No dates are given as to when Belen died, when his body was taken to the morgue, or when Magdumana took the body and then smuggled it to the Mangaun Correctional Center.

Mpholo and his ActionSA demand the medical report of the paramedics who took Belen to the hospital and Belen's death certificate. They also want to investigate how Belén's body was given to Magdumana when she was not his wife.

After Bestor pretended to have died in a cell fire, the cremated remains (then believed to be Bestor's) were taken to the Free State morgue, where a postmortem was performed, and a fire started. It turned out that he had died from a head injury. It is still unknown how Bellén got his injuries.

Another discrepancy is that Belen's family describes him as tall, but autopsy reports indicate that the body in the cell was a minimal individual, measuring only 145 cm tall. I'm here. However, a coroner reported that the body size may have been misestimated, especially since the body was in a fetal position.

Two days after his fire, Magdumana recovered the body from his state morgue and took it to the Soweto morgue. It seems strange that Magudumana retrieved the same corpse twice from the same morgue. SAPS previously confirmed that Magudumana claimed three different bodies from the Free State morgue, the third of which was found in a cell.
