On the evening of April 23, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at the University of Venda when a female student jumped out of her second-floor apartment window. The young woman, who was reportedly pregnant, had been struggling with depression and anxiety, triggered by her boyfriend's infidelity with her best friend. Despite efforts from friends and fellow students to talk her out of it, she locked herself in her room for 30 minutes before taking the drastic step.
Fortunately, some quick-thinking students had placed a mattress on the ground floor to cushion her fall, and the university's rescue team had laid down sponges, which helped prevent serious injury. The woman was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention, and she is currently in stable condition.
