In a captivating interview, we had the privilege of speaking with Mari Tatenda, a talented rapper from Zimbabwe who recently released his debut album, "Dreams in Technicolor." Through his music, Mari Tatenda sheds light on the pressing issues faced by the youth and young adults in Zimbabwe and across Africa. With a focus on social imbalances, financial constraints, negative religious indoctrination, and political tensions within ghetto communities, Mari Tatenda aims to provoke thought and raise awareness about these critical matters.

Born and raised in Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe, Mari Tatenda's personal experiences and observations of the challenges faced by his community served as the inspiration behind his album. In an effort to bring about positive change, he has utilized his music as a platform to address these issues head-on.

Collaborating with Malawian producer Taff Beats, Mari Tatenda recorded "Dreams in Technicolor" in Blantyre, Malawi. This regional collaborative effort added depth and richness to the album's sound, amplifying its impact and making it a unique musical endeavor.

Mari Tatenda: Thank you for having me. "Dreams in Technicolor" is a reflection of the challenges faced by the youth and young adults not only in Zimbabwe but also across Africa. The album addresses issues such as social imbalances, financial constraints, negative religious indoctrination, and political tensions within our ghetto communities. These issues affect the success, growth, mental stability, and overall well-being of many individuals, and it is crucial to raise awareness and provoke thought about them.

Q: Having grown up in Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe, how did you personally experience and observe these issues in your own life and community?

Mari Tatenda: Growing up, I witnessed the struggles faced by individuals in my community. Limited opportunities, a lack of resources, and societal pressures had a profound impact on the dreams and aspirations of many young people. These experiences inspired me to use my voice and music as a means to address these challenges and work towards positive change.
