Empangeni Police Seek Public Assistance in Locating Suspect Linked to Woman's Murder |
DURBAN – The Empangeni Police Department is appealing to members of the community for their assistance in locating Thomas Vusi Chavango (Shabangu), the prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, Mbali Mbuyazi.
Mbali Mbuyazi, 40 years old at the time, was last seen with Shabangu in Matshana Reserve, just outside Empangeni Town. According to reports, on 26 November 2022, Shabangu allegedly took Mbali from her place of residence, and tragically, it was the last time her family saw her alive. After an intensive search operation, Mbali's lifeless body was discovered buried in a farm around Matshana Reserve on 23 December 2022.
In light of the evidence against him, a warrant of arrest for Shabangu was issued by the Empangeni Magistrate's Court on 13 June 2023. The police are now seeking the support of the public to locate the suspect and bring him to justice.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the police in KwaZulu-Natal, emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving such heinous crimes. He expressed that the police department is committed to finding justice for Mbali Mbuyazi and providing closure to her grieving family.
