Mpumalanga, A shocking incident unfolded as members of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG), a congregation established by Shepherd Bushiri, fell victim to an armed robbery during a night vigil in Mpumalanga. The incident occurred on Saturday, when about 10 attendees from the Kamhlushwa branch had gathered at approximately 9:30 PM, awaiting the arrival of fellow congregants.

Reports reveal that three masked gunmen entered the premises, casting an atmosphere of terror over the assembled worshipers. The assailants brandished firearms as they carried out their criminal act, leaving attendees in a state of shock and fear.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesperson for the police, shared that the perpetrators made away with various valuables. The stolen items included an unspecified amount of cash, 14 mobile phones, as well as bank cards and associated PINs belonging to both the congregants and the church itself.

Adding to the distressing turn of events, one of the congregants' vehicles was also seized by the robbers before they fled the scene. The incident not only disrupted the spiritual gathering but also left those present traumatized by the harrowing experience.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of public gatherings to criminal activities and raises concerns about the safety and security of congregants during religious events. The authorities are actively investigating the robbery, aiming to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the unsettling crime.

Shepherd Bushiri, a self-proclaimed prophet and founder of the ECG, has not released an official statement regarding the incident at the time of this report. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by faith-based communities and the imperative of ensuring their safety while exercising their religious freedoms.
