During the operation, police officers observed two Toyota Fortuner vehicles traveling together in a convoy on a public road and began to follow them. The drivers of these vehicles noticed that they were being pursued by the police and attempted to flee in an effort to avoid arrest. However, they were eventually cornered, stopped, and subjected to a search.
Additional assistance from the Vehicle Identification and Safeguarding Unit (VIS) was requested at the scene to conduct further investigations into the status of the motor vehicles. Subsequently, it was confirmed that both Toyota Fortuner vehicles had been reported as stolen earlier this year in Gauteng Province, specifically in Roodepoort and Honeydew.
Two male suspects, believed to be nationals of Zimbabwe and Malawi, were apprehended on the spot for being in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles valued at more than one million rands. These suspects, aged 31 and 40, are set to appear before the Sekhukhune Magistrate court in the near future, where they will face charges related to the possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
Police investigations into this matter are ongoing.
