Western Cape Police Make Strides in Crime Prevention, Seize Illegal Firearms in Rapid Operations

In a series of commendable interventions, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Western Cape successfully disarmed multiple suspects in isolated incidents on Thursday, December 14, 2023.

The Maitland Flying Squad swiftly responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on the N1 Highway. Their investigation near a local shopping complex resulted in the apprehension of four individuals, ages ranging from 26 to 47, after the discovery and confiscation of two 9mm pistols along with ammunition. The suspects are now facing charges related to the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, SAPS members on patrol in Heideveld at approximately 20:30 responded promptly to an ongoing shooting incident nearby. Upon arrival, they encountered three unknown males attempting to conceal themselves. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition, and one suspect was detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.
