Dr Nandipha Magudumana, a mentally-ill inmate in South Africa, has been allegedly assaulted by a sangoma and a mentally-ill woman. Magudumana has reported threats of violence to authorities but has not received any response. The tensions between Magudumana and the sangoma stemmed from singing and prayer sessions with other inmates in the cell. Magudumana is currently in custody at the Kroonstad Correctional Centre in the Free State.

Motloung wants Magudumana to be moved to a cell where her life is not threatened and plans to file a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission to ensure her safety. The Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, has not received any complaints from Magudumana or her legal representatives about assault cases. Nxumalo disputed claims that mentally challenged inmates are kept with other inmates, as they fall under the Department of Health's jurisdiction. Magudumana is the co-accused in the Thabo Bester prison escape and is currently in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria.
