The entertainment world is in mourning following the tragic death of renowned DJ and comedian, Peter "Mashata" Mabuse, who was fatally shot after a performance in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to reports, Mabuse and his friend were attacked by gunmen while driving a bakkie after the performance. Both men were shot and wounded, with Mabuse tragically succumbing to his injuries in the hospital. In a statement, Mabuse's family confirmed his passing, expressing their profound sadness and requesting privacy as they deal with the loss. They also thanked everyone for the messages of support and condolences received during this difficult time.
Mabuse, known for his vibrant presence in the entertainment scene, was not only a popular comedian but also served as a stadium announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns' home matches, further cementing his presence in the industry.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) also expressed their sorrow at the loss, stating, "The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is saddened to announce the untimely passing of staff member Mr Peter “Mashata” Leshie Mabuse on Sunday, 21 April 2024, in what appears to be an incident of violent crime. The South African Police Services (SAPS) are investigating."

As investigations into the incident continue, Gauteng police have opened murder and attempted murder dockets and are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in apprehending the suspects. Colonel Noxolo Kweza, the Gauteng police spokesperson, stated that the suspects fled the scene, and police are pursuing several leads.
