Motorists in the Noordgesig area of Soweto have been urged to avoid the area due to protest action. Residents have blocked roads with rocks and burning tires due to service delivery issues. Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla has urged motorists to use alternate routes like the N17. The cause of the protest is unclear, but it is suspected to be service delivery issues. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is monitoring the situation and has dispatched officers.

SCHOOL PROTEST

In Mpumalanga, learning was suspended at some schools in Hazyview as teachers staged a protest at the Department of Education's White Hazy Circuit. The teachers called on the department to strengthen security in schools amid a spate of criminal attacks on them and pupils. They want schools to be taken as business entities and hire security personnel. However, provincial Department of Education spokesperson Jasper Zwane said arming security guards at schools would place them at a higher risk.
