Her resignation follows her removal from President Cyril Ramaphosa's new cabinet last week after serving as Tourism Minister. Sisulu was left out for the first time since joining the leadership team.

Sisulu has been a member of the executive since 1996, serving under Presidents Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, Jacob Zuma, and currently, Cyril Ramaphosa.

Tourism, foreign relations, human settlements, water and sanitation, defense, public service and administration, housing, human settlements, and intelligence are among the ministries she has overseen.

At the time of publication on Wednesday morning, Luthando Nogcinisa, spokesperson for the ANC Chief Whip in Parliament, said it was unclear whether Sisulu had already resigned.

As such, it is evident that Sisulu had hoped to retain her position as the Minister of Tourism. Nonetheless, a report from TimesLive indicates that Sisulu is set to receive a large amount of money from her resignation.

Nothing is known about her next move since she is planning to resign.
