Wits University students flocked to the streets to protest on Thursday afternoon, bringing parts of Johannesburg Downtown to a halt.

The students were protesting the university's alleged lack of proper help for unhoused students and those with overdue fees.

According to eNCA, Students have issued the university with a letter asking that all students who owe less than R150,000 be allowed to register for the 2023 academic year.

According to Vuyiswa Mochochoko of Wits SRC, these pupils are all academically qualified to be a member of the university.

Students also claim that the administration has failed to meet their expectations.

Protests have disrupted classes at Wits University's Braamfontein campuses.

What is the solution to this matter? Each year, students from various South African public universities go through the struggle of registering because of financial constraints. Is the NSFAS system failing to fulfill its promises and are universities supposed to allow students to get into further debt?
