In a distressing incident in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, a mother rejected her 10-year-old son, refusing to allow him to return home. The community discovered the boy loitering in an area known as Chubbies Garage, prompting them to contact Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) for assistance.

Upon arrival, RUSA officers interviewed the child, who explained that he had left his home approximately eight days prior. He sought refuge with a family friend after his mother had disappeared with his five-year-old brother, leaving him to fend for himself. However, the boy left his temporary shelter yesterday morning when his caregiver couldn't provide him with meals. He spent the day aimlessly wandering around the Chubbies Garage area until concerned residents intervened.

Recognizing the boy, one individual offered to transport him back to his residence. When they arrived, the Good Samaritan met with the mother, who expressed her frustration and stated that she no longer wanted her child. The resident then accompanied the boy back to their own home and contacted RUSA for assistance.

The minor was subsequently taken to the Verulam Child & Family Welfare Society, where a Social Worker was assigned to address the situation.
