Tracing Victims of SAPS Member Assaults

According to Yusuf Abramjee from Crime Watch eNCA, it has come to light that the South African Police Service (SAPS) has commenced the process of tracing victims who are allegedly victims of assault by SAPS members. This development follows the circulation of a video clip capturing the incident on various media platforms. In response, the SAPS management has taken immediate action by initiating an internal departmental investigation and actively searching for the victims to obtain their statements.

Initial reports from Yusuf Abramjee indicate that the vehicles seen in the video belong to the SAPS, and the individuals involved are indeed SAPS members. However, the SAPS administration has distanced itself from the behavior and actions depicted in the video, emphasizing that they do not align with the organization's values and code of conduct. The SAPS upholds principles such as integrity, professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights, which are expected to be upheld by all members.

General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of SAPS, has condemned the conduct of the members involved, as reported by Yusuf Abramjee. He reiterated that it is the responsibility of SAPS members to protect and uphold the fundamental rights of individuals, exercising their powers responsibly and with restraint. Regardless of the circumstances, such behavior is deemed unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

To facilitate a thorough investigation, Yusuf Abramjee reports that the victims are urged to come forward and provide their statements. Brigadier Athlenda Mathe has been designated to handle the investigation and can be reached at 0820408808. By sharing their accounts, the victims will play a crucial role in uncovering the truth and ensuring appropriate action is taken.

HMR News acknowledges the contribution of Yusuf Abramjee from Crime Watch eNCA in providing this update. We remain committed to keeping our readers informed about the progress of this matter. The SAPS is determined to address the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and reinforce its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the South African public.
