Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been told he must sell Harry Kane if he cannot persuade the England captain to sign a new contract. Tottenham owner Joe Lewis has informed Levy he is not prepared to let Kane run down his contract and leave as a free agent next summer. If Levy cannot convince Kane to extend his deal, he will expect the club to sell rather than forgo a considerable fee, with Tottenham valuing Kane at around £100 million, if not more. Bayern Munich is preparing a third offer for Kane, and they do not believe the striker wants to sign a new contract with Tottenham, who are thought to be willing to pay him as much as £400,000 a week to stay. Manchester United could be tempted to formalize their interest in Kane, who would be manager Erik ten Hag's dream target, given Lewis' ultimatum.

If forced to sell Kane, Levy would prefer to do so to an overseas club rather than a Premier League rival, which strengthens Bayern's hand. However, the prospect of allowing Kane to move to Bayern without putting up a fight for his services would frustrate many United fans, as the uplift he would bring would frustrate many United fans.

Kane's wife Kate has reportedly been looking at homes in Munich, and Bayern believe the player is willing to join them. A move abroad would effectively end Kane's ambition to break Alan Shearer's Premier League goals record. However, Kane is also desperate to win trophies, and Thomas Tuchel, the Bayern coach, is thought to have told him they can win the Champions League together.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is becoming increasingly frustrated by the talk around Kane and has urged the club to resolve his future. He has been wary of being drawn into a stand-off with Levy and the cost of trying to do a deal due to Uefa's new Financial Sustainability rules governing spending. They are currently looking at Hojlund and other strikers such as Randal Kolo Muani to add to England midfielder Mason Mount and Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana.
