Police arrested a 29-year-old woman, Ayanda Jim, on Sunday, 26 November 2023, for registering a false rape case against her former boyfriend. The arrest followed an investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.

Jim had initially claimed that she was raped on Saturday, 25 November 2023, prompting the involvement of the FCS Unit. However, during a medical examination arranged by the Investigating Officer, the woman revealed to the doctor that the alleged rape never occurred. Shockingly, it was disclosed that she had fabricated the accusation as an attempt to extort money from her former boyfriend.

Subsequently, a case of perjury was registered, leading to Ayanda Jim's arrest. She made her first court appearance on Tuesday, 28 November 2023, and has been remanded in custody until Monday, 18 December 2023.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the Provincial Police Commissioner, commended the swift and decisive action taken by the members involved in the case. He highlighted the gravity of such incidents, emphasizing that they not only misuse state resources but also deprive deserving community members of essential services.
