Elon Musk's drug use has raised concerns among Tesla and SpaceX leaders, according to The Wall Street Journal. Musk has been accused of using LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms, often at private parties. Musk has also been consuming ketamine, which he claimed he had a prescription for as an antidepressant. The Pentagon reviewed Musk's federal security clearance tied to his role as CEO of Space Exploration Technologies, which is certified to launch military spy satellites. After a joint containing marijuana was puffed on in September 2018, Musk agreed to three years of random drug testing at NASA's request. No trace quantities of drugs or alcohol were found.

SpaceX is now the only US company approved to transport Nasa astronauts to and from the International Space Station. The Pentagon has increased purchases of launches from the company in recent years and contracted with SpaceX's satellite communications business Starlink to support Ukraine's military. Linda Johnson Rice, a Tesla director, did not stand for re-election two years later due to frustration with Musk's behavior and concerns about his alleged drug use. Musk oversees six companies: Tesla, SpaceX, X, The Boring Co., Neuralink, and xAI. His net worth ranks as No 1 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
