Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Leader, Julius Malema, has taken a firm stand on accountability within the party, urging 400 councillors, Members of Provincial Legislature (MPLs), and Members of Parliament (MPs) to step down for failing to provide transportation to the EFF's 10th-anniversary celebrations.

The FNB Stadium in Johannesburg was transformed into a sea of red during the anniversary rally, with nearly 100,000 EFF supporters enthusiastically attending. However, the celebration was marred by the absence of buses meant to transport supporters to the event, despite clear instructions from the party's Central Command Team (CCT) in January.

Speaking at an EFF press conference, Malema made it abundantly clear that the party would not tolerate "deadwood" or "lazy" public representatives. He stressed that all MPs, MPLs, and councillors must be held accountable for their contributions to the party.

Malema highlighted a specific example of a Member of Parliament from Malamulele who failed to provide any buses, while a councillor from the same area managed to arrange one. He expressed his disappointment at this lack of commitment and emphasized that those found lacking would face consequences.

In response to the situation, Malema announced that hearings with the 400 non-contributing public representatives would be conducted starting the following week. While each representative will have the opportunity to explain their actions, Malema has already indicated that most of them will be asked to step down from their positions.

The EFF leader clarified that the criteria for bussing in supporters differed based on their proximity to the event venue. Public representatives in Johannesburg and Gauteng were expected to contribute more due to their close proximity to the stadium.

Malema firmly defended the party's self-funding approach, stating that most EFF programs are financed through monies generated from the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Parliament, and party levies.

Addressing the issue of defections to other parties, Malema remained steadfast, asserting that he is unconcerned if public representatives decide to join rival political factions such as the ANC. His focus remains on those who actively contribute to the EFF's growth and principles.

As the EFF takes a decisive stance on accountability, Malema's message is clear: the party places great importance on responsibility, and inactive officials will not find a place within the EFF.

The EFF's anniversary celebrations showcased the party's significant growth in recent years. However, Malema's call for accountability reflects his commitment to maintaining a strong foundation and prioritizing the EFF's core values and supporters.

The upcoming hearings will be closely monitored by party members and political observers alike, as Malema's decisive leadership shapes the future of the EFF, reaffirming its dedication to empowering South Africans and advocating for economic freedom.
