Tshwane Metro Police Constable and Accomplices Arrested
On Wednesday 02 August 2023, the Middleburg Flying Squad successfully thwarted a planned hijacking on the N4 highway around Phola, Ogies. During the operation, a 37-year-old Tshwane metro police Constable and his two accomplices, aged 33 and 34, were apprehended for allegedly conspiring to hijack a truck believed to be carrying valuable stock.
The vehicle used by the suspects was reportedly stolen in a previous hijacking incident in Daveyton, and further investigations revealed that it had been robbed from its original owner. This crucial piece of information led the authorities to suspect the involvement of the arrested individuals in a string of criminal activities.
The Flying Squad's operation not only resulted in the apprehension of the hijackers but also led to the discovery and confiscation of two network jamming devices. Among the seized devices were an eight-channel jammer and a more sophisticated 20-channel jammer, suggesting the potential use of such equipment in previous hijackings or illegal activities.
Upon interrogation, the suspects revealed that there was another vehicle involved in their planned hijacking operation. However, this second vehicle managed to escape the authorities' grasp, highlighting the significance of the Flying Squad's timely intervention.
The motive behind the hijacking plot became clear during the police interview. The suspects admitted that their mission was to hijack a truck carrying valuable cargo, likely intending to sell the stolen goods on the black market
