Gayton Mckenzie, leader of the Patriotic Alliance (PA), has announced a reward of R1 million for the safe return of missing six-year-old Joshlin Smith. The missing girl has become the conscience of the nation, and Mckenzie is taking R1 million of his own money that could have been used for his political campaign. He stated that finding Joshlin is bigger than politics and that searches are ongoing for her.
Joshlin has been missing since February 19. Mckenzie and his teams provided police with information about the suspects, but at the time, nothing was done. He called out the police for not updating residents on the case's progress and seeking public assistance.
Currently, Joslin's mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend, Jacquen 'Boeta' Appolis, Stevano van Rhyn, and Lourentia Lombaard have been charged with trafficking in persons for the purpose of exploitation and kidnapping. The group has all abandoned their bail and are remanded in custody until their next court appearance on May 13. Mckenzie called out the police for not updating residents on the case's progress and seeking public assistance.
Owen, who told Mckenzie previously that an official from the South African Navy was looking for a child of mlungu (white child), was also mentioned as having a child with Kelly. Mckenzie also claimed he got information from a current inmate who claimed he had a child with Kelly when he asked about the child. With McKenzie's political power and clout, he will never let anyone forget about Joshlin and will not allow the file to be closed.
