Swift Action by Authorities Saves Infant from Severe Abuse; Parents in Custody
Boksburg North, 15 October 2023 - In a harrowing incident last night, a 3-month-old baby was rescued from a home marked by extreme abuse and danger. Local law enforcement and emergency response teams acted swiftly, ensuring the child's safety and apprehending the abusive father.
At 23:32 PM, emergency services received a distress call from the DSU (Defensive Strategies Unit), reporting a dire situation involving an infant struggling to breathe. Private first responders arrived at the scene to find the baby in critical condition, with visible injuries, broken ribs, broken fingers, and signs of brain damage. The father, allegedly under the influence and aggressive, posed a threat to anyone attempting to assist the child.
DSU 1 managed to keep the father at bay, allowing medics to attend to the baby. The severity of the abuse prompted immediate action. The South African Police Service (SAPS) was called in, resulting in the arrest of the father. The mother had fled the scene prior to the authorities' arrival.
The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) Ambulance services were dispatched urgently. Chaplain Gerda provided emotional support at the scene, offering solace during this distressing situation.
Upon arrival, GPG Ambulance transported the infant to Boksburg Benoni Hospital (BBH). Social workers will oversee the child's care and well-being as they begin the process of recovery.
